SUMMARY:Lunch and Learn with Councilmember Kaplan
DESCRIPTION:Lunch and Learn with Councilmember Lisa Kaplan\n\n\n\nCouncilmember Kaplan will be discussing a variety of City of Sacramento resources for small businesses along with a District 1 update.\n\n\n\nAbout our speaker:\n\nBorn in Los Angeles\, but raised in Oregon\, Lisa came back to California to attend McGeorge School of Law. Upon graduating in 2000\, Lisa began her career working in the California State Capitol\, serving several Assemblymembers over a 5-year period. In the meantime\, Lisa was an active member of Natomas Rotary\, where she was a liaison to the Natomas Unified School District. As a result of this involvement\, Lisa was elected as a Trustee to the Natomas Unified School District in 2002\, where she served for 20 years\; including 12 years as an elected delegate to the CA School Board Association. As a school board member\, Lisa helped lead the passage of 4 school bonds\, which contributed to the construction or modernization of every school in Natomas\, including each of its charter schools.\n\n \n\nProfessionally\, in 2009\, Lisa was appointed as the Assistant Executive Officer of the State Allocation Board which sets the policy and approves the construction funding applications for qualified school districts in California. Thereafter\, in 2011\, Lisa opened her own legal business as a solo practitioner\, working with K-12 districts on issues relating to contracts\, school construction\, land-use\, administrative\, and public law.\n\n \n\nIn November 2022\, Lisa was elected as the District 1 City Councilwoman for the City of Sacramento\, joining for only the second time a female majority council in the city's history. Currently\, Lisa is the only mother of young children serving on the council.\n\n \n\nIn her spare time\, Lisa spends as much time as possible with her husband and their two daughters\, hiking in the redwoods\, traveling all over California: supporting girl scouts as a troop co-leader\, serving on her daughters local PTA and running her law firm.
